This past weekend, a team from Triangle ReStores traveled to Asheville, NC, to assist Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity in reopening one of their ReStores after devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
Hurricane Helene left significant damage in the western part of North Carolina. Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity was hit hard, with damage to its homes, administrative offices and two area ReStores. While the Weaverville ReStore remained intact, rebuilding efforts for the Asheville ReStore have been ongoing for months.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of shoppers and donors, the 10 area Triangle ReStores were able to raise money last October to distribute to Habitat affiliates impacted by the hurricane, including Asheville, Burke and Ashe counties.
Triangle ReStore staff were able to provide hands-on support alongside Asheville ReStore staff and volunteers during the store’s reopening last Friday, and throughout the weekend in the Weaverville location as well.
Habitat ReStores play a critical role in funding Habitat home-building and repair programs, so getting the Asheville ReStore back up and running means more resources to aid Habitat in rebuilding affordable housing in the community.
While the Asheville ReStore has now reopened its doors, the journey to recovery for the affiliate is far from over.
Triangle ReStores will send another team out in February to continue aiding Asheville, NC. Staff are looking forward to this continued partnership.
