In order to better serve our customers, we do have specific criteria for acceptable goods. All donations are tax-deductible. Please follow the guidelines below. If you’re unsure if your donation meets the criteria, please call 919-744-2420.

The donation criteria are subject to change. Some donations may be declined due to safety concerns or marketability.

If you are considering a large business donation or an estate donation, we would love to help you out! Larger donations are wonderful and often require extra planning and resources. Please contact our Acquisition Specialist at 919-744-2416 or eric.moe@trianglerestores.org for this type of donation.

Items we do not accept

We do not accept items that are not in sellable condition – this includes items that have rips, tears, stains, odors, or pet hair. We also do not accept items that have real or potential safety hazards such as items that have recalls or any hazardous chemicals. All items must be in good working condition as we do not do any repairs or restoration of items.

The following is a comprehensive list of items we do not accept. Please review carefully and do not donate items that we cannot sell: this will add to our dumpster fees and take away money from our mission.

No non-working appliances
No appliances older than 10 years
No gas appliances unless new, and in packaging
No dishwashers or water heaters unless manufactured after 2014 (EPA lead laws)

Cabinets & countertops

No cabinets with missing doors/drawers (must be attached)
No water damaged cabinets
No Formica countertops unless they are straight pieces with no cutouts (no L shapes)
No cultured marble sinks unless vanity is included
No pieces of granite smaller than 36” long – no granite pieces with cutouts unless it includes a straight section at least 36” long or includes the cabinet set that matches

No commercial doors (or taller than 84”)
No sliding glass doors or French doors unless they are in the frames
No doors with rot, cracks or missing panes
No shower doors unless new and in packaging

No printers (unless new in the box)
No tube TVs
No fax machines
No CRT computer monitors

No loose flooring (must be 100 sq. ft. or more of same type), must be new in the box (laminate/hardwood/tile)
No used or previously installed carpet or padding - new carpet or padding 10’x10’ or larger (no cut-outs or cuts) is accepted
No rugs with any rips, stains, or odors

All items must be in good condition and include all parts/pieces/hardware to complete, and instructions if possible
No rips, tears, stains, pet hair, or odors
No sleeper sofas
No futons with mattresses attached. Futon mattresses are not accepted
No fireproof file cabinets
No cubicles
No conference tables
No desks larger than 4’
No particle board furniture, unless structurally sound
No china hutch tops without the base
No bed frames with boxsprings or mattresses permanently attached
All bed frames, headboards and footboards must have all required hardware to assemble

No items with rust
No flashing or sharp metal edges
No incomplete sets of hardware (e.g., door hardware – keys also if applicable)

No lightbulbs except LED – must be new and in package
No track lighting
No recessed/can lights
No fluorescent light fixtures

Building Materials

Bricks and pavers must be palletized on a flat, paved surface and in quantities of at least 100 pieces for a pick-up
No lumber or trim less than 6’ in length
No sheetrock less than 2’x2’
No Plywood/OSB sheets less than half sheets
No loose roof shingles (in the package only)
No donated paint
No scrap lumber
No materials with nails still attached
No concrete on wood
No warped or water-damaged lumber
Sand, mulch or other materials must be in original packaging – no loose materials

Must be in good condition, have no rips, stains, or structural defects
We can only pick up mattresses if we are also picking up another item
Mattresses can only be dropped off at these stores: Raleigh, Fuquay-Varina, Brier Creek, Durham, Glenwood, and Hillsborough
Futon or Sleeper Sofa mattresses only are NOT accepted

No unframed bath mirrors or medicine cabinets with unframed mirrors
No used bathtubs – New tubs only
No dirty toilets (must be clean, residential only, 1.6 gpf or less, and must include all parts/pieces)
No shower doors unless new in the package
No faucets manufactured before 2014 (EPA Lead Laws)
No wall-mounted sinks
No sink tops over 5’ long unless includes vanity
No cast iron sinks unless farmhouse style
No cultured marble sinks without vanity base cabinet

No rusty tools
No wood ladders or pull-down attic ladders
No hazardous materials including gasoline in gas tanks
No power saws without blade guards
All metal ladders must have safety sticker still attached

No double pane window sashes (single pane are accepted)
No window treatments with cords (unless new in package with “Kid Safe” label) or valences
No storm windows
All windows must be complete without rot, cracks or foggy glass
No drapes or valences

No textbooks, magazines or encyclopedias
No VHS, CDs or cassette tapes
No clothing
No toys
No bed linens
No garbage disposals unless new
No infant car seats, cribs, strollers or other infant items
No outdoor playsets
No items with mildew or mold
No commercial items including doors, light fixtures, etc.
No analog thermostats, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers or carbon monoxide detectors
No garage doors or openers
No unframed mirrors or glass (no glass tops unless base is included)
No used gas fireplace inserts (new and in packaging only)
No pianos or organs
