Name and Title: Chrissy Sailstad, Durham-Chapel Hill ReStore Manager

Home town: Durham!

Current town: Durham

When did you start working for the ReStores? I’ve been at the Durham store since April 2014, but just joined up with the team at Wake County January 1, 2018.

What is your favorite thing about working for Habitat?  I love seeing the impact we have on our community and working with the families we partner with!  I also love the people who shop at the ReStore - so friendly and love sharing thrifty ideas and new projects with us!

What does your typical work day look like? I tend to split my time answering emails and working on reports and financials and then walking the floor to see what needs to be worked on and how to make the store more shopper and donor friendly.  I always end up chatting with customers and volunteers and I love hearing the feedback they have for how we are doing and what changes we can make to create a better experience for them!  It has been hard working on the sales floor lately because I love getting involved in moving things around, but I'm pregnant now so it's making that task nearly impossible since I'm not allowed to lift more than 20 lbs!  Even when I try to slide something across the floor, my staff fusses at me :)

What do you do in your spare time? I love spending time with my husband and 4 year-old daughter!  We go to the movies and museums a lot - we have memberships at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham and Marbles Kid's Museum in Raleigh.  We recently went to Washington D.C. and took my daughter to the Air & Space Museum, which she said was better than Marbles!!  I was a very proud, nerdy parent in that moment :)

Do you have any pets or children?  Yes - 4 year-old daughter named Grace and another kid due in June!  2 dogs: Barley and Boo Boop!

Dream vacation: Greece!!  I've been wanting to go there for so long and we were going to go on our honeymoon there, but couldn't afford it at the time... and then we had a baby... and now we're having another one!!  We will get there one day!

Favorite movie line: "If you suffer your people to be ill-educated and their manners corrupted from infancy, then punish them for those crimes for which their first education disposed them; what else is to be concluded but that you first make thieves and then punish them?"  This is a quote from the movie "Ever After", but she's actually quoting from Thomas Moore's book "Utopia"

"Knowledge, like air, is vital to life.  Like air, no one should be denied it" from "V for Vendetta".  That movie has a TON of quotes I love!

Favorite piece you’ve seen or purchased in the ReStore:  I've purchased almost every piece of furniture in my house from the ReStore!  My favorite is a large gray "Cindy Crawford" sectional.  I can't remember what I paid for it (maybe $800?) but it was a steal compared to buying it brand new!  LOVE what comes in the store!  It’s amazing the items we get.  I have no more room in my house for new items, but I still find stuff I would love to purchase if I ever need anything in the future!
